Cut welt strip: finished size + 1" on both length and height.

Cut interfacing slightly larger than welt strip.

Fuse interfacing to wrong side of coat where welt will sit.

Redraw your finished welt rectangle on the right side.

Mark finished welt rectangle centered on the wrong side of the strip.

Press long edges under ½".

Press short edges under ½".

Finished welt strip should now match your drawn rectangle.

Place welt strip on coat, aligning fold edges with your marked rectangle.

Pin or clip carefully.

Check angle and height match the opposite side.

Topstitch around all four edges, ⅛" from the fold.

Pivot at corners for a crisp shape.

Backstitch to secure.
- Add small bar tacks at the ends for reinforcement
- Sew the second welt the same way
